Yoga Poses for Plantar Fasciitis

A painful condition

Plantar fasciitis can be a rather painful condition which can disturb your movement. The pain can get so severe that getting out of bed is something that the patient would dread. People suffering from the condition tend to be on the lookout for ways that would alleviate the pain.

Yoga is well known to be rather beneficial for stretching and relaxing the body. As the main mechanism of getting rid of the pain caused by the condition is to stretch the fascia, yoga is one of the best ways to treat it. Additional strain can be removed and relief from the pain can be acquired.

Some poses

We are now going to discuss some of the yoga poses that can provide you with relief from the condition.

Reclined leg stretch is meant to stretch the hamstring muscles and the tissue. The tissue and muscles tug on the sole and as a result, the fascia is tightened.

To do the pose, you need to lie down in the supine position with your legs together. Then, extend through the heels strongly. Keep one leg pressed on the ground while you press the other one to the chest. Place a strap or belt around the foot that you are bending and hold it loosely.

Extend the leg in a straight upward direction and extend your elbows fully. Ensure that your neck is relaxed, and your head is not in the backward position.

Now, slowly lengthen the back of the leg. Be gentle about it and do not try to do it too quickly. Remain in the position for 30 seconds. Relieve and breathe for a few seconds. Then, repeat the whole exercise with the other leg.

As has been mentioned by the Yoga Journal, the Garland pose can be rather beneficial as well. It eases the stiffness and thus, relieves the pain that is caused by plantar fasciitis. It does so by stretching the ankles and the connective tissues of the foot.

Do not ignore the pain

If you experience pain while performing any of the poses, you need to abandon them immediately. Ignoring could make matters worse. In all probability, you are doing the position wrong. Seeking help from a professional or a video tutorial would be advisable for you under such circumstances. Yoga is beneficial to treat this condition, but only if it is done in the right manner.
